Welcome to Cairns

April 2

Yesterday we arrived into Cairns around 7:30 in the evening after driving all day. We passed one roll over, something truly signaling that we have returned back to civilization. It feels so weird being back around people, I drove through traffic lights, something I haven't seen since, well Darwin. Cairns is wonderful, the hostel we are staying at has a great feeling for it. Cairns is absolutely brimming with backpackers, something that I love to see. Nice to see people again. Anyway we checked in to the hostel, had a shower (something I haven't had since well...4 days ago) which felt like a million bucks after 4 days on the road in the same clothes. Cairns isn't nearly as humid as either Broom or Darwin, but then again it has rained a lot since we got here. We went out to the bar for a late cheap meal, and around 9 Chris returned to the hostel and me and my trusty sidekick Neko started drinking. we didn't drink a whole lot, but during the evening I sent a text to Ella seeing how she was doing and told her that if she saw Paps (the guy who punched me) to give him a kick in the nuts for me. She sent a message saying "He is in jail right now" which signaled me to jump with joy and to order anouther round. I started talking to this girl and I told her that this winter it was -44. She refused to believe me, which made me laugh. She kept on asking how it was possible to survive in those tempitures. I replied "With many layers of clothes". 10 minutes later I ran into a girl from Winnipeg and I burst out laughing because I knew that Winnipeg was even colder than Edmonton this year. She got a good laugh from the other girl when she said it got down to minus 50 in Winnipeg. The next day I dropped by the local Didgeree Doo store to see if the guy would play mine for me to see what it could do. I pulled it out and he had a good look at it saying "It looks like hot shit" he replaced the wax mouth piece for free and then gave it a blow. I video taped him and I was astounded at the sound it made. He asked me how much I paid for it. I replied "80 bucks". His jaw dropped to the concrete floor. He said the Doo was worth about 350 to 400. Which is high for a didgeree doo like this as it has no paintings on it, and it isn't made from the darker wood that everyone else likes. Meaning this "Didg" (short for Digere doo) it a very good one. He said I got a steal of a deal on this thing. I have to admit I like my Didg more knowing that Walter wasn't pulling my leg. Later that day we signed up for a 5 day dive course, but I will get into that later when I get back from it. Will update everyone later.
